We are already on vacation (mid
June and July) today I would like to tell you
about the tourist places that you can enjoy in Bogotá. If you are
one of those who focus in the culture,
you will be fascinted with our museums.
1. GOLD MUSEUM
In spanish “ Museo del oro” is
located in Bogotá, Colombia. It is one of the most visited touristic highlights
in the country. The Gold museum has a pre-Hispanic goldsmith collection,
approximately 34,000 pieces of gold and Tumbaga (that means rings), 25,000
esculture made in ceramics, stone, shell, bones and textiles. The halls you can find: The use
of Metal showing the techniques and
manufacturing of the old metallurgy. The people and the gold in the age
prehispanic of Colombia. You can find the main use of metals within the political
and religious organization. Some topics about Cosmology and Symbolism, that let
you explore the mythical themes, shamanism and the symbolism of metals. On of
the most importan topics are The offering: that is a modern room that represents the ceremony of
the offering, you can live that experience withn visual effects, tipical
cultural sounds and the careful assembly of goldsmith's pieces. The explorator an Interactive room, promotes the diversity and
the meaning of the heritage that the Museum preserves.
The Exhibitions are on the second
floor, This room shows different
cultures which inhabited Colombia before the Spanish colonists arrived and the exhibition is permanent and divided into
different halls for every culture: Calima, Quimbaya, Muisca, Zenú,
Tierradentro, San Agustín, Tolima, Tairona, and Urabá. A special room called
"After Columbus" that shows bilingual descriptions for every pieces
of the exhibition.
You
can take some souvenirs on the first floor, you can find there a shop with
tipical objects for the diferent culturs, and a restaurant where you can take a
delicious coffee.

2. BOTERO
MUSEUM
This museum had 123 pieces of art
from Fernando Botero and 85 pieces forother artists in total 208 artwork that
you can’t miss. In the collection you
can see diferent movements of art paintings, sculptures, charcoal and other
artistic expressions that transmit to you the beauty of art.
The art of Fernando Botero are famous, because he
change the concept of the beautyness
transforming the stereotype of "thinness" and presents swollen or fat
works with a perfect symmetry, which even weigh, thesize and silhouette, give
you the sense of "Fly". In addition, the museum has impressive works
by the artist, you can also find other rooms that exalt the European art of the
nineteenth and twentieth century of pre-impressionist and impressionist artists
and also find a hall of avant-garde movements: Dada, Surrealism, Cubism,
Futurism etc.

3. COLOMBIAN
NATIONAL MUSEUM
The Colombian national museum are
the space for collections with history,
art, culture of Colombia. This museum Is
the most oldest in the country and as the continent too. Built it in 1823 know it as the Panóptico (inspired by
the Panopticon prison) and served as a prison until 1946.
In 1948, the building was adapted
for National Museum and restored in 1975. This museum has a collection of over
20,000 pieces including art works and objects representing different national
history periods. The Permanent exhibitions present archeology and ethnography
pieces from Colombia artefacts dating 10,000 years BC, up to twentieth century
indigenous and afro- Colombian art and culture. Founders and New Kingdom of
Granada room houses Liberators and other Spanish iconography; he round room exhibits
a series of oleos from Colombia painting history.
When you start the tour, through
the temporary exhibition you will find an aerolith that entered the Earth's
atmosphere in 1810. This aerolite originally weighed 750 kilos but now weighs
411 kilos and is one of the few objects that people can touch in the Museum. On
the third floor of the museum you will find exhibited, on one of the walls, a
drawing made by one of the prisoners while he was held in prison. One of the
most valuable elements of the museum and at the same time less appreciated is
the crown that was given to the liberator Simón Bolívar in Cusco.

4. THE
COLONIAL ART MUSEUM
The museum has 1.577 objects
among which you can find easel painting, textiles, sculpture, furniture,
silverware, numismatics, printed matter and manuscripts. One of the most
expensive works is the "monkey of the pile" a work carved in stone of
the sixteenth century valued at US $400,000.
5. THE
SANTA CLARA MUSEUM ( CHURCH)
The buildwas built in 1647 where
the church and the convent of the religious community of "Las Clarisas", one of
the oldest in Bogotá.
The building has as great
attractions for visitors: The crypt and the corridors that served as
passageways.

6. ARCHAEOLOGICAL
MUSEUM (MUSA)
Was built in the seventeenth
century. The museum has a collection of more than 13,000 pieces of
pre-Columbian art, one of the most important in the country. This place
has a collection of pre-Columbian
ceramics that covers the different regions of Colombia and also includes
elements from other associated cultures of Perú and Ecuador. It also has
beautiful pieces of goldsmithing and basketry.

7. THE
TYPICALS COSTUMES MUSEUM
The exhibition shows aseveral
historical periods. Each of these clothes represents fashions and diferent social positions and climates of
the national territory and also the attire of men and women through history.
The collection is strengthened
with a sample of textiles: wool, cloth, rubbers and leather.
This museum has been in operation
since 1972 and is divided into 8 rooms, of which three are focused on the
indigenous people who were in our lands: the Spaniards who arrived, and the
black community, who came to work in the mines. Also, a you can see the exhibition on hats and another one of
backpacks, that let you know different fibers and materials, used on the
elaboration of these elements, like the
coconut fiber, the frailejónfrom the Páramo, cumare, palms, vines, tobacco and
cotton.

8. COLOMBIAN
CURRENCY MUSEUM
Was
founded in 1621. Here you could find a
striking collection of Colombian currency, including examples of currency
dating back to the Spanish conquest. As Colombian currency changes quite
frequently, the collection is extensive and the history behind some of the
currency will be sure to surprise you. Besides you can apreciate the
collection of numismatics (collection of coins and paper currency issued
by a nation with the official design of the country), philately (sort stamps,
envelopes and other postal documents, as well as studying postal history) can
be observed, pre-collection, tickets and other means of payment, lottery and
games, historical library, artistic collection, machinery and tools for
manufacturing used by the National Currency and Stamp Factory-Real. If you
arrive early, you can run with the luck that they give you one of the coins,
which they have for this purpose, but beware, they only reward the first one to
arrive.

9. THE
MUMMIES AND FETUSES MUSEUM
If
you are eccentric and somewhat bizarre, you will like to visit this museum, there you
could see some mummies, fetuses, Siamese babies, amputated bodies, frozen
extremities and human lungs affected by tobacco, skulls and much more. The
visit begins with the
"origin", where you can see mummified small particles of life (24 to
30 hours), then proceeds to give or know the mummified fetuses products of
mothers addicted to drugs or also abortion products for homelessness ,
prostitution and other painful situations. In these samples we can find babies
with one eye, Siamese, babies with a genetic problem on their skin etc. Tour
suitable for people with strong stomach and not easily impressionable.
This place was founded in 1973 by
Dr. Alfredo León Fernandez, Colombian physician, anatomist. The museum brings
together a collection of human tissues that invites anatomical, embryological,
pathological knowledge and the reflection of issues such as respect for life,
not abortion.

10. THE NATIONAL POLICE MUSEUM
This place was built between 1923
and 1926. In this place you can find objects such as weapons and uniforms that
were used by the national protection forces over the course of time.
In the museum you can also observ different
exhibitions of events and criminal acts that have marked the history of the
country. You can find stories about the death of Pablo Escobar (drug trafficker
and terrorist drug dealer who made the United States tremble in the 80's), and
also see through objects the strong corners that the police and the army gave
to Pablo Escobar, many of his belongings and even the tile where he died.

11. THE
NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM
( NATIONAL UNIVERSITY)
The Museum collection’s has
paleontological (fossil), archaeological, botanical and zoological pieces that
include examples of fossils, human remains, elements made by pre-Hispanic man
(tools, clay vessels, statuary), parts of plants (roots, stems, leaves) ,
flowers or fruits preserved in alcohol or dried and zoological specimens (exo
and endoskeletons, dry skins, eggs, nests and buds).
The
museum has a special attention in the tombs and the rest of fauna found in
Chía, Tequendama and Gachalá, with 9,000 and 6,000 years of antiquity. It also
shows indigenous ethnobotanical pieces of current use.
The museum has an exhibition of turtles,
snakes, iguanas, crocodiles and babillas. It includes the exhibition of a
specimen more than 3.20m long, corresponding to a skeleton of one of the
largest species in the world: crocodylus intermedius, It is fascinating!😍

12. THE
LEATHER MUSEUM
This place shows the most
significant objects of the capital at the beginning of the twentieth century, such objects are: clay pots in the form of turkeys, not pigs, as we are used to
today. Rusty leather shoes, paintings and masks. The Leather Museum, which
talks about crafts, especially leather, and the Museum of the 40s, which
responds to an ethnographic work. The place has a total of 13 permanent halls
and the rooms shows some molds for shoes, woodworking tools such as
lutier brushes, even a church rattle.

13. THE
MILITARY MUSEUM
The museum was inaugurated on
August 6, 1982, it contains an important collection of sculptures, historical
documents, decorations, military uniforms, weapons, vehicles and models that
show the history and technical evolution of the Colombian Military Forces.

INTERNATIONAL EMERALD MUSEUM
The Museum was founded on October
22, 2008. The museum has several collections of emerald and beryl specimens
over 30 million years old. Also, it has an exhibition of the best emeralds in
Colombia. The country of Colombia is known internationally for being an
exporter of this precious stone.
